I've been wrestling with a lack of empathy lately. I'm not exactly sure why that is or whether my lack of empathy is really just a symptom of my inner bitch.
By way of example, I read, see the news and hear stories of the mortgage "crisis" and I am unfazed. My typical reaction is that "those balloon loans were generally not predatory. They say in big bold letters how much you owe and when. If you could not afford the home you purchased, then that is your fault and I should not have to bail you out of your mess."
Now, this is not to say that some fly by night loans were not predatory, for those people - I do have sympathy and hope the long-arm of the law compensates those people - but not at my expense - because to take my money to fix that "crisis" would punish me and not the wrongdoer. The majority of loans, however, were made by well-known mortgage lenders and banks and were neither bait and switch loans or undisclosed loans. Borrowers wanted another point or two less in interest and didn't think through the reality of a variable or balloon loan.
So, I see the mortgage "crisis" as yet another issue for people to absolve themselves of personal (and corporate) responsibility. So, I don't care. Except to be pissed that soon my tax dollars will go to the mortgage bailout because lenders were too quick to lend and borrowers were too quick to borrow when they should not have.
I've also seen the reports on Sen. Kennedy's health - and again, I don't care. My philosophy is that you get what you deserve. He murdered an innocent woman by letting her drown, while he - a champion swimmer and athlete did nothing.
These are but two of many examples, where I've been told that this attitude makes me a harsh, bitter, nasty woman - but I don't think so. Do you?
If someone is trying to portray you as a b*tch, those are the wrong examples! Everyone I know feels exactly as you do, so we must be a cadre of bitter people... or completely normal. What do you think? ;)
Ummm.... are those people calling you a b*tch liberals by any chance? Seriously. I agree with you 100% on both of those situations. I guess I am a b*tch too.
A short review . . . We loved it and have been quoting it for two weeks. It isn't that great of a movie, lacks character development for the other characters - seriously, Jackie Chan is the monkey and he says - maybe - two things!
Those of you who think that Obama will bring change to our nation? You are right! He wants socialized medicine, here is yet another example of socialized medicine: a fully treatable and early curable cancer goes undetected because of socialized medicine.
Oh, and that notion that the gas crisis will be solved by implementing a windfall profits tax?
Who decides what = a windfall? Seriously, Exxon-Mobil's profit margin is a mere 7-10% and while that equals billions of dollars, it is only 7-10%. So, if that is a windfall profit, does that mean that the company I work for which has a 20% profit margin has windfall profits too? What about Microsoft? I've not yet looked at its profit margin.
If I were the big oil companies, and Obama and his buddies were going to tax me in this way? I'd do one of two things: pass the tax to you and me - that way gas isn't $4.00 a gallon but $8.00 or pack up my headquarters and move to Mexico or Canada or the Carribean - you know, somewhere more friendly to the tax money I already generate for them.
So, Obama represents change - yes, he does. Socialized medicine, communist money grabbing and oh so much more.
I used to shake my head when I heard people say you get what you vote for - now? I'm throwing my hands up in agreement. You get what you vote for. You want Obama? You get socialized medicine - you want Obama? You give more of your hard earned money to others and those good companies which provide good jobs here in the U.S? They'll leave too. Which, come to think of it, shouldn't matter as you will be sponging off of the more wealthy at that point, so . . .
I got off track. . . Obama wants to fix our nation into the Utopian ideals which have been tried and have failed before. Instead of being the great nation we are now, we will be the next big failure. Kinda makes you want to run out and have more babies so they can witness it first hand doesn't it? - yeah, me neither.
Excellent explanation...our country is already facing a serious economic crisis no matter who is elected...but with Obama, it can only become worse faster.
I cannot believe that it wasn't until the 2:30-something part of the video that someone finally decided to take his crazy gone postal truculent ass down. I'd have been all over him...nobody throws monitors at anybody and gets away with it in my world. Who the f**k does he think he is, anyways?? He doesn't deserve to be around people.
It so looks like a security camera. And watch... about 1/3 of the way through, some guy walks back in and starts filming it. How frickin' bizarre.
I worked in a real pressure cooker once. One of our lead engineers had a nervous breakdown (actually a few did) and crawled up on a desk in a fetal position. It was horrible.
.... three minutes of that rampage??.... unbelievable.... once he hit that woman with his monitor, I'd have taken him down..... how people let that go on for three minutes just blows me away.....
... and his shorts match his helmet!..... modern women find that important these days, I've heard!.... he's going to be a little heartbreaker in 10 years!...
