This is a public service announcement.
Everyone, by now, has heard the name of "Joe the Plumber" one cannot escape it, and one should not. Yes, his name inspired a "drink one" game on debate night. Yes, his name inspires derision on the left. But stop and think for a moment about Joe the Plumber - no, really, stop and think about him. Most of us are Joe the Plumber as this excellent article illustrates.
Let me tell you about another Joe so that you can see my point. Let's call him Joe the Trucker. This Joe - the man who named me Oddybobo "Jo" after himself - is a truck driver and has been since his days as a teenager in the Army.
Joe the Trucker is an average Joe. He shops at Walmart, he eats at McDonalds, he didn't attend college and he isn't a rich man. He works long, hard hours - 7 days a week - doing long hard work. He endures hours of stupidity on a daily basis. He pays his taxes, he follows the rules, he puts his pants on one leg at a time - you get my point. Joe the Trucker and his wife Kimchi Kim raised two kids on his trucker's wages and have yet to reach the "good life" now that they are empty nesters. They are the average Joe - albeit with a little asian flair.
Now, Joe the Trucker has worked his whole life to own his own company. Two years ago, that dream became a reality when he bought a small truck and a three car trailer to haul new vehicles to dealerships in Western Pennsylvania. He had spent the last 20 years as a commercial car hauler. But wait, he continued to drive for the company he worked for as well as operate his own business full time. That meant that he worked regular hours for his company and evening and weekends for himself.
Last year, Joe the Trucker and Kimchi Kim grossed close to $250,000.00, of course, after expenses (including skyrocketing fuel prices), major repairs, the replacement of a trailer, necessities and other maintenance, business insurance and TAXES, that amount was reduced to about $90,000.00 - still pretty good. Of course, that $90,000.00 is used to pay personal bills, mortgages, insurance and health care and at the end of the day Joe the Trucker and Kimchi Kim have little to show for their hard work.
Now, add the additional tax burden they will face under Obama - and they will face it - Kimchi Kim and Joe the Trucker may just lose their business despite making ON PAPER a buttload of money.
Joe the Trucker - though average he may be - is also intelligent. He has done his homework on both candidates. He listens to everything that they say. He can argue politics better than any politico I know and he is getting shunted aside as an uneducated member of society by the media elite because of his Joe the Trucker status. In case you wondered - Joe the Trucker is a McCain supporter because contrary to what the media and the Libtards would have you believe, Obama is not for the average, middle-class American and he never was.
So, this message is maybe better directed at Libtards - Don't be fooled by the Joe the's in our midst. They are not the doormats you have made them out to be. They are informed, they are impassioned, and they are the majority - oh, and for good measure, they won't be silenced - right Tito the Construction Worker?
Public service announcement over.

Posted by: Christina at October 21, 2008 10:40 AMExcellent! I just wish more liberals would see this... it doesn't matter that they might not care... at least we'd know that they made an informed choice at voting box, not just an uber feeling that the One gave them...
Posted by: pam at October 21, 2008 10:47 AMTell Joe the trucker to shrug. I did and am not coming back to the funny farm to give my money for the Obama Wealth Redistribution Plan. I'm sitting this collapse out. Luckily, I missed the Carter Debacle by a couple of years.
If Joe the trucker continues to perform his duties as a private businessman, he should insist on being paid cash from his clients.
Posted by: Two Dogs at October 21, 2008 10:59 AMOddybobo,
This is not going to be a popular response, but both McCain and Obama's tax plans are based on AGI, which means they would be figured on the $90,000 of business income they earned after itemization, not the $250K.
So for Joe and Kim's retirement, Can Chon Sumnida, (sorry best I could do in Hang-lish)

PT, actually, I'm not sure that is correct, that is to say, neither has owned up to their tax plan being based on AGI, because if it was, I know no middle class with an AGI of $250,000.00 that said, I have no idea what you were trying to say in Hanglish but . . . chan manayeo.
:)
Posted by: oddybobo at October 21, 2008 12:44 PMBravo, Bravo! Excellent!
The whole problem is that libtards don't think that the average Joe or Jane with a small business would earn anything close to that, they think that the $250k figure is something that was made up by Joe.
Posted by: Quality Weenie at October 21, 2008 03:54 PMGood for Joe! Wait...Western Pennsylvania, you say? Never mind. Joe's just another racist redneck.
Posted by: I can't believe it's not Murtha at October 22, 2008 01:22 AMExcellent Post, Oddy... I will be pullin' for all the Joe's around here...
Posted by: Richmond at October 22, 2008 08:50 AMWAY TO GO! I love your thinking and you express yourself so very well!
