A Big Fish in a Small Pond

As late as two weeks ago, my son was petrified of the water in the pool. If we walked toward the water he would climb up me like a tree and dig his fingernails and toenails into me whilst shreiking.

Last week, I got him into the pool and onto a raft contraption, but truly no further from there.

This weekend, for some reason, we had a major break through.

He now swims. On his own power (with the aid of floaties). And, where once it was impossible to get him into the water, it is now impossible to get him out. Two days! It only took two days and now my baby is swimming - albeit the doggy paddle. Then! He engaged in a water battle with a friend.

See for yourself . . .

Oh, there was fear! Didn't you see the pic where his eyes are closed tight?

But I am so proud of him for getting over his fear of the water so quickly!

Such a sweetie!

And, could that be Oddy in a bathing suit?

Oh, you must be so proud. And he's still such a cutie patootie! But a very brave one at that! It seems like all of you enjoyed the day, what fun.

As usual, kids do stuff when they're ready. He wasn't ready until now. *grin* He sure is a cutie.

Just like a fish. But cuter.

Oh yeah - that's a whole lotta cute right there... ;)

Yay! What a cutie! And such a quick learner!

You gotta be a proud mama. I remember taking all three of mine to swimming lessons many years ago. My oldest daughter took to it immediately. She was like a little mermaid. Great memories.

I couldn't get either of my girls to go out to the pool with me this weekend. They're too cool to hang with pops. Enjoy it while you can!

Fear? Kids? In the same sentence? I think you were confused, as the pictures certainly show!

What a cutie! Before long he'll be begging you to take off the floaties....

That's great that he's over his fear. He's gonna be a little fish this summer!

Very good thing...I learned to swim when I was three...saved my life several times.

Believe it or not...I STILL know adults who can't swim...Crazy!!!

glad it's coming along!

My daughter is now rather good - no shark but definitely past the guppie stage.

My son has his moments.

But he's been so good that last week he went to granddad's and spent the week going to swim-camp during the day.

I'm glad for all of you that he had a breakthrough. Will make him feel like he can participate with the bigger folks.

The first step is getting them in the pool. The next is getting him pool-safe.
